“My
teacher told me, “Deep in your heart live two dogs, one full of
love and one filled with anger. They are fighting a battle to the death.”
I asked him, “Which one will win?” He replied, “Whichever
one you feed.”
Born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon, Robert Cabral is
a master teacher, showman and craftsman. His accomplished career has spanned
many crafts from artisan, photographer, author and martial arts master
but his passion for animals is dearest to his heart.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island and raised in Germany and Florida by
his single mother, Robert learned first hand how hard life could be when
he arrived in the US unable to speak English. He learned to focus on his
inner strength through the lessons he learned studying traditional
Japanese Martial Arts. By the age of 30 he was promoted to 7th degree
black belt, and became one of the youngest people ever to hold this rank
in traditional martial arts. He has used his talents in the martial arts
to help adults, children and dogs… Yes, dogs.
Robert brings a different perspective to dog training, one that is filled
with hope and optimism, even when dealing with otherwise hopeless dogs.
When he rescued his first dog, all he knew was the martial arts; for more
than 25 years Robert taught, practiced and lived the way of eastern arts.
He immediately found that training dogs through a Zen-like approach would
transform dogs with difficult behaviors. He subsequently developed The
Black Belt Dog Training system.
At the request of his veterinarian, Robert began helping dogs other trainers
gave up on or would not even approach; these included those with severe
behavioral and aggression issues. He doesn’t believe in conventional
training, instead he approaches each individual dog and uses the skills
of a Zen master to transform even the most difficult and frightened dogs
in a compassionate manner.
Robert’s passion for animals led him to create Bound
Angels, a non-profit organization aimed at awareness and education.
Bound Angels is dedicated to helping animals most in need, those living
in our nation’s shelters at risk of death. What sets Bound Angels
apart from other rescue organizations is Robert’s edgy approach,
from catchy music videos featuring shelter dog adoptions to a major billboard
launch “Cage the Babe – Free the Dog” which was unveiled
on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood California in 2009. Bound Angels’
slogan “Join the Revolution” motivates and inspires people
to get onboard and Robert believes the revolution has begun.
His unique approach toward canine behavioral assessment testing has won
him the praise and respect of municipal shelter management and employees.
His unique method of training and rehabilitating dogs can make the difference
for dogs doomed by conventional standards.
Recognized as an expert witness, Robert routinely testifies in court cases
on behalf of dangerous and vicious dogs. His expert testimony has saved
many dogs from a death sentence.
Bound Angels’ creative adoption campaigns have saved countless dogs
and Robert’s work has inspired others to do the same. The Shelter
Video Angel Program became a hit on the Bound
Angels YouTube Channel and boasts a 100% success rate for adoption,
his catchy approach makes his videos a joy to watch and their success
rate proves it.
Robert is an animal rights advocate and stands in the foreground for animal
rights. His tireless work with animal shelters, rescue organizations and
troubled dogs has changed the lives of many dogs who are now living in
loving family homes thanks to his dedication and skill. Robert also lectures
to social groups and schools on animal behavior and proper animal custodianship.
When asked why he trains dogs, Robert answers, “I train dogs because
I love dogs.”
